Please Note: “Vic’s Picks” will be posted every Saturday that will include whatever Victor from the “Victor and Matt” show has on his mind. Whether it be a prediction, an event you must watch this weekend, linking his favorite story on the web or giving kudos to a great game or play. Here is this week’s installment of Vic’s Picks:
- Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel was always considered the perfect coach. Sure, he only won one national championship (2002), but the clean-cut coach with the sweater vest was dominating the Big Ten while graduating his players and running a clean program. Or so we thought. As it turns out, Tressel is no better than any other coach these days when winning is all that matters and at all costs. When are the coaches going to realize that covering up a wrong doing is worse than the actual rule being violated? I expect the NCAA to bring the hammer down on the Buckeyes because a major violation was committed and the head coach lied about knowing and then misled investigators. The Buckeyes aren’t out of the woods just yet because they suspended Tressel two games and fined him $250,000. If the NCAA finds wrong doing, and it seems they have plenty of evidence already, then the worst is yet to come for a guy you never would have expected.
- Before the Miami Heat snapped the L.A. Lakers eight-game winning streak and ended their own five-game losing streak on Thursday night, the media was hammering head coach Eric Spoelstra for mentioning some players were crying after last Sunday’s loss to the Chicago Bulls. Spoelstra should have used the Vegas motto, “what happens in the locker room, stays in the locker room.” If a player was crying out of frustration, the only people who should know are his teammates and coaches. The Heat have been treated unfairly in the media for most of the year, and LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and even Spoelstra must realize they will be blamed when they lose and not get the full credit when they win because with their talent, they are suppose to win. It may be unfair, but that’s the way things are.
- This is the point where I usually predict a winner of a game, but since conference tournaments are in full swing I decided to do this week’s prediction a little different. With the NCAA selection show tomorrow, my prediction will be the four No.1 picks for the Big Dance. Overall No.1 seed goes to Ohio State, followed by Kansas, then Pittsburgh and the final, if they can win the ACC Tournament, North Carolina.
