Please Note: “Vic’s Picks” will be posted every Saturday that will include whatever Victor from the “Victor and Matt” show has on his mind. Whether it be a prediction, an event you must watch this weekend, linking his favorite story on the web or giving kudos to a great game or play. Here is this week’s installment of Vic’s Picks:
- Over the years professional athletes say some stupid things. Remember Latrell Sprewell? The guy who turned down a three year deal from the Minnesota Timberwolves worth reportedly between $27-30 millions because it was “insulting” and later followed up that comment with “I got to feed my family.” Earlier this week, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson said the NFL owners in the current CBA negotiations were “treating the players” to “modern day slavery.” The fact that Peterson is comparing, making over $40 million dollars over six years to the past slaves is very insulting and has to be one of the stupidest comments an athlete has made… to date. This reminds me of the NFC Championship game two years ago in New Orleans. Peterson couldn’t hold on to the ball then, and now he can’t hold his tongue.
- The madness has begun!! Today begins the second round of the Big Dance with teams hoping to advance to the Sweet 16 next weekend. The first couple days of the tournament have not disappointed, unless you had Louisville making a deep run. There have been upsets, buzzer beaters, blowouts and comebacks. With all these things happening in the first two days, it’s no wonder why this is the best tournament around. The hope is the next two days of the tournament, and the following two weeks, have as much excitement as the first 48 hours.
- Let’s head to the NBA this weekend for a prediction. Miami has been in the news all year because of the Big Three – LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. When they lose, it’s the end of the world, when they win, it’s expected. The Heat are taking on the Denver Nuggets this weekend, one of the hottest teams in the NBA. Since Carmelo Anthony accepted a trade to New York, the Nuggets have not missed him one bit; in fact, they may be even better going 10-2 since the trade. Likewise, the Knicks are 7-6. While the Heat struggled to shoot the ball against Oklahoma City on Wednesday, they had time to correct its problems and will hand the Nuggets their third loss since the “Melo trade.” Miami 96 Denver 85.
