Please Note: “Vic’s Picks” will be posted every Saturday that will include whatever Victor from the “Victor and Matt” show has on his mind. Whether it be a prediction, an event you must watch this weekend, linking his favorite story on the web or giving kudos to a great game or play. Here is this week’s installment of Vic’s Picks:

  • Thursday of this past week was the NBA trade deadline. Most eyes were on Carmelo Anthony deciding between signing with the New York Knicks, New Jersey Nets or staying with the Denver Nuggets. Eventually Anthony opted to sign a three year/$65 million extension with the Knicks. This trade obviously makes the Knicks contenders in the East, but not enough to take over the Celtics, Heat or Bulls, who all clearly have a better core of players.
  • Still on the NBA trade deadline, some eyebrows were raised when the Boston Celtics traded center Kendrick Perkins and backup guard Nate Robinson to the Oklahoma City Thunder for forward Jeff Green and some guy named Nenad Krstic. Surprisingly, Celtics General Manager Danny Ainge feels this trade makes Boston a better team as they move forward. While having Green helps with another body to guard LeBron James, it won’t help them when they play the Lakers with big men like Lamar Odom, Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum. Perkins joins Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook and now the Thunder look to make some noise down the stretch and deep into the playoffs.
  • Already missing football? Here is some sort of a fix– the NFL Scouting Combine! QB’s will be tested on Sunday, here is the TV lineup from the NFL Network.
  • If you don’t live on the west coast, you probably don’t care about this week’s prediction. A game with a great deal of implications is No. 7 BYU traveling to No. 4 San Diego State for a showdown in the Mountain West Conference. Not only is first place in the conference on the line, but a possible high seed in next month’s Big Dance is also at stake. The Aztecs look to avenge their only loss of the season when the Cougars come to town. While all eyes will be on Player of the Year candidate Jimmer Fredette, Steve Fischer has his team playing well, especially at home. Fredette is a natural scorer and will put points on the board. The key will be keeping him in check and not allowing him one of his patent 40-point games. This game will be electrifying and the crowd will be amazing. The Aztecs win a close one: San Diego State 80, BYU 74.
